"Wherever a pandemic goes, xenophobia is never far behind." The Atlantic
Ever since the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19), there has been a reported increase of racism towards Asian communities. Fear of this virus has caused people to look for blame, and thus discrimination against the very place where the virus was first reported insued. Although I am nervous about the outcome when the virus hits more communities, I am more fearful of the social fear and seperation that will occur. I did not realize how quickly people could turn on the friends and neighbors in the face of adversity. It has also been scary to see how quickly our priorities have changed day to day. For years, my life has been about school and college and work, but now, staying safe has trumped them all. In the last several years of high-intensity high school work, I never thought I could say anything was more important than college. Keeping positive thoughts and constantly checking my internal biases. I recommend the same for everyone else.
