Samantha Power is my idol.
I won't lie, before hearing Samantha Power, my ideas about people who really cared about global issues were becoming increasingly more negative. I started to see a trend (and frankly, I still see it), where people appear to care about the world and be "so involved," but their knowledge about certain issues, cultures and histories made them develop savior complexes (and expose how in reality, they weren't doing very much at all). After all, how can anyone have the authority to assume what others need?
After I kept hearing from "inspiring people" who had "done a lot", I was unenthusiastic to hear what Samantha Power had to say. However, I was wrong about her. She is an example of someone who has actually has developed a plethora of knowledge, experience and the ability to self-reflect on her perspectives and actions. In the specific group setting we were in, she received a variety of questions including ones about detailed issues, complex governments and ways to actually create positive change around the world. She wasn't just another person trying to tell others that they needed to solve problems. She was solving the problems herself.
